Domus hosted the official UK launch of new tile collection ‘Piano’ from Italian design house Mutina during Clerkenwell Design Week, 22^nd – 24^th May 2018. Created by French designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Piano is a striking, colourful partially glazed porcelain tile collection available exclusively from Domus in the UK.

With the Piano collection, Mutina re-discovered the technology of double charged clay, enabling them to obtain different textural effects in a wide range of colours. The slight variation in size and specific use of glaze creates a ‘vibrating’ effect, similar to the shimmering image of reflections on the water, creating an optical illusion of a non-geometrical figure.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec describe Piano:

“The tiles can be fitted together at will, to create endless layout possibilities. Their random disposition is mysterious and creates the impression of a total continuation of space. This systemic rhythm always creates the space for originality.”

The collection is made with coloured clays to which layers of glaze are added in different widths. There are five base colours: white, grey, blue, green and pink and two rectangular sizes (7.5 x 30cm and 10 x 30cm). The tiles are arranged by colour and are grouped together by the lead colourway in the same box, this allows for the greatest variation and ability to create a vibrant fitted tile layout. Piano is suitable for floors and walls, both indoors and outdoors.

The VASCO name is synonymous with sustainability, having won a number of design awards for their 100% recycled, energy efficient, aluminium radiators.  The production of raw aluminium is both extremely expensive and damaging to the environment, so VASCO consciously opts to only produce their radiators from recycled aluminium, which ensures their finished product can be smelted down and re-used.

VASCO was the first manufacturer to move towards a 100% sustainable product with the guarantee of optimum recycling without the loss of quality.   All VASCO’s aluminium radiators are produced using 100% recycled material which can be anything from aluminium drinks cans to scrap, examples include Bryce, Beams and ONI.

Duravit C.1 tap fittings win the iF GOLD AWARD 2018

March 2018, Duravit has received the iF DESIGN AWARD for the 41st time. The iF GOLD AWARD acknowledges the design excellence, execution, consideration of environmental standards, functionality and innovations of the new C.1 tap fittings range. This award again confirms Duravit’s high level of design expertise. In addition, Luv, Vero Air c-bonded and the BioTracer were honoured with the iF DESIGN AWARD.

The C.1 design range perfectly reflects Duravit’s design language. The ergonomic handle with a recess underneath feels comfortable in the hand and permits a precise operation. Sophisticated details, such as the gap between the base plate and handle which has been reduced to a minimum, add to the elegant look.

Four different heights for a range of basin dimensions, three-hole tap fittings in two heights and wall-mounted fittings with a spout in two lengths provide comfort at the washbasin as well as matching design. C.1 also offers an ideal tap fitting solution for the bidet, shower and bathtub.

Introducing AQATA’s new DS500 Quintet shower enclosure

 February 2018, AQATA, the leading UK designer and manufacturer of premium quality shower enclosures, has expanded its Design Solutions range for 2018 to include the new DS500 Quintet. The uniquely five-sided shower enclosure fits perfectly into corners providing a contemporary design as well as maximising the bathroom’s floor area – creating a feeling of more space.

The DS500 Quintet enclosure has been introduced to the successfully established Design Solutions collection of luxury frameless 10mm shower enclosures and screens.
